Elizabeth Lenny combines notions of time, place, and materiality in her work. Many of her pieces embody memory, tangible echoes of encounters with the natural world. Each object is informed by the symbiotic interaction between herself and her material, in which the artist follows the natural curves, grain, and points of resistance inherent to a subject. These tactile properties speak of a material's own memory and express its story of formation.
Elizabeth’s process relates to traditional craft techniques. She primarily uses hand tools to slowly reveal form. The resulting work occupies space between functional object and sculpture, encouraging interaction and use, promoting continuous change over time.
