Inspired by a decorative box by Austrian architect and designer Josef Hoffmann, Fluted Chambre – Mirror (Petite) frames the viewer’s reflection within arched surfaces, recalling the quiet tension of water just after it has been touched. It collects the gaze and holds the atmosphere that surrounds it, catching passing thoughts and softening the edge of shadow. Set within Villa Pestarini, Maggie Pei’s use of stainless steel both honours and softens modernist forms.
